Hand study

I was looking around for a pair of hands to draw and I found a very nice photo on Pinterest of these hands. I really love how you can see a lot of the wrinkles and details in this aged hand. I'm always trying to get better at drawing hands even if its from a photo. I find it to be a good exercise to draw them from both a live model and a photograph.

Portrait Drawing Part 01

As part of a wedding gift I decided to do a watercolor portrait of my husband's cousin and his fiance. I took photos of the progress from the sketch to the finished piece. I used watercolor pencils because I'm a little rusty with watercolors and this gave me more control in the drawing stages.

Drawing the Figure

Here are a few more drawings from the last figure drawing class I went to. So far they have been fun and relaxing. And the best part is I get to spend some time with friends while drawing and on some nights go out for a drink afterwards.

Girl with thorned hair

This is a work in progress of a girl with a thorned hair prickling her finger. I'm still trying to work on the look of the torns which is her hair and the hands. I find hands are really hard to draw especially since I don't draw them often.

Hand Studies

I used to draw hands more often just to get better at it. Hands have always been hard to draw and get proportionally right. The bottom drawing I did was of my own hand and the top was off a photo I found online. For my next drawings I will be photographing my own hands to draw so I can control the light and shadows.

Truth

This is a drawing I did as a gift to my husband's cousin's son for his first birthday. The little boy's name is Truth and he is the cutest boy ever. We spend some time with him and my husband's family in LA and on another occasion when they came to visit us in NYC. I took a lot of photos of Truth and wanted to do a drawing of him from one of the photos. I really liked the way this drawing came out and I was able to give it to my husband's cousin before we moved out of LA as a gift for their son.

Begining of a Painting

I was asked by my friend, Jeniva, to do a painting for her wedding as a gift to her fiance, Gabriel. I started sketching out the image of Gabriel as a baby with his mom holding him for the painting. This was the very first part of the painting process and I used an old photograph as reference.

Voluptuous Vixen

This is another sketch for the other blog that I'm keeping up with. The topic is Voluptous Vixen and I decided to draw Eve from the story of Adam and Eve. She is offering you the forbiden fruit as it covers part of her body. This was a quick sketch.

Rainbow Brite sketch

This sketch is for the other blog and the topic was Rainbow Brite. I decided to draw her as an old woman who has grown out of her clothes and is not the same sweet little girl. To me Rainbow Brite is from the past and since she is not an important character in my life I choose to depict her as an old idea.

Self Portrait

Trying to draw myself once more. I did this with just pencil and paper while preparing dinner. I need to practice more in order to get it to look more like me.

Elephant drawing

I did this elephant drawing at the Museum of Natural History in NYC during my freshman year of college. There are two pieces of paper put together to complete the drawing.
