My name is Laura and I have been painting and drawing all my life. I was born in Lima, Peru but for most of my life I have been living in the US. As a child I was always drawing and sketching. My curiosity led me to paint with different mediums; acrylics, oils, watercolors, pastels chalks, and to jewelery making and printmaking. My interests led me into a new direction towards what I do for a living now, working as a cg lighting artist. I love my work and I love meeting new people.

Hand study
I was looking around for a pair of hands to draw and I found a very nice photo on Pinterest of these hands. I really love how you can see a lot of the wrinkles and details in this aged hand. I'm always trying to get better at drawing hands even if its from a photo. I find it to be a good exercise to draw them from both a live model and a photograph.

Brooklyn Charm Class
Last Saturday I had the pleasure to take a class at The Brooklyn Charm Shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I went with a friend of mine to the wire wrapping rings and pendants class and we both came out with two pieces. Everyone in the class made one ring and one pendant but they all came out looking very unique. I'm going to try to make more rings on my own now that I can make them with found objects. Here is a link to the Brooklyn Charm Shop, http://www.brooklyncharmshop.com/

Drawing Portrait Part 02
Once I was satisfied with the dry look of the colored pencils I started to add water, but very little at a time. After the paper dried I went over it again with the dry watercolor pencils to build up more color or to change it. The last photo is the finished work with it's frame.
Portrait Drawing Part 01
As part of a wedding gift I decided to do a watercolor portrait of my husband's cousin and his fiance. I took photos of the progress from the sketch to the finished piece. I used watercolor pencils because I'm a little rusty with watercolors and this gave me more control in the drawing stages.

Drawing the Figure
Here are a few more drawings from the last figure drawing class I went to. So far they have been fun and relaxing. And the best part is I get to spend some time with friends while drawing and on some nights go out for a drink afterwards.

Cherry Blossom Apron

I was invited to my friend's bridal shower back in 2009. I had heard she was going to Japan for her honeymoon so I decided to paint an apron with the famous cherry blossoms. I used acrylic paint and a white apron from Michael's arts and craft store and finished it in a few hours. If I had more time I would have definitely added more detail, but overall I like the way it came out.
