I did this sketch while hanging out at a coffee shop with my husband and friends. This was from my imagination and I used some references for finalizing the pose.
My name is Laura and I have been painting and drawing all my life. I was born in Lima, Peru but for most of my life I have been living in the US. As a child I was always drawing and sketching. My curiosity led me to paint with different mediums; acrylics, oils, watercolors, pastels chalks, and to jewelery making and printmaking. My interests led me into a new direction towards what I do for a living now, working as a cg lighting artist. I love my work and I love meeting new people.

Metropolitan Museum of Art drawings
The Met is such a big museum and with every visit I find new sculptures to draw. Here are a couple of drawings from last weekend.

Zebra
I've been enjoying using white charcoal on black paper for drawing. I was thinking of what could be the next thing I draw in that method and my husband suggested a few things and the zebra idea stood out to me.

Portrait of my friends
Two of our good friends got married last June and I wanted to make them a wedding card. I always enjoyed drawing and painting portraits but time was running out with this one. I searched on Facebook for a good photo of my friends. In the end I wasn't able to give them the card on time for their wedding but I was able to give it to my friend as a Christmas gift.
Drawing at The Met
I realized I didn't post any work for 2015, so this year I will start by doing more art. In order to start the year right my husband and I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to draw the sculptures.

Dinosaur Painting
I wanted to practice and start painting using Photoshop and the first thing I saw was my dinosaur candle holder on my coffee table. I thought the shape and style of the dinosaur was interesting and a good object to practice painting. Here is a semi final version of my dinosaur.

Maroon 5 Album cover contest for creativeallies.com
I love Maroon 5 and when I found out about this contest for creating an album cover I couldn't pass it up. The cover had to be inspired by the new album. "V", and had to use your own original artwork.
My design is mainly inspired by the song "Maps". I chose to draw a woman whose dress turns into a design that represents a map. Also the back of her dress forms the roman letter V for the title of the album.
A lot of the songs are about love, a significant other, and about heartache; because of this I chose to draw a woman who is looking away from the viewer.
Please take a look at my design and vote for me.

Hand study
I was looking around for a pair of hands to draw and I found a very nice photo on Pinterest of these hands. I really love how you can see a lot of the wrinkles and details in this aged hand. I'm always trying to get better at drawing hands even if its from a photo. I find it to be a good exercise to draw them from both a live model and a photograph.

Brooklyn Charm Class
Last Saturday I had the pleasure to take a class at The Brooklyn Charm Shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I went with a friend of mine to the wire wrapping rings and pendants class and we both came out with two pieces. Everyone in the class made one ring and one pendant but they all came out looking very unique. I'm going to try to make more rings on my own now that I can make them with found objects. Drawing Portrait Part 02
Once I was satisfied with the dry look of the colored pencils I started to add water, but very little at a time. After the paper dried I went over it again with the dry watercolor pencils to build up more color or to change it. The last photo is the finished work with it's frame.
Portrait Drawing Part 01
As part of a wedding gift I decided to do a watercolor portrait of my husband's cousin and his fiance. I took photos of the progress from the sketch to the finished piece. I used watercolor pencils because I'm a little rusty with watercolors and this gave me more control in the drawing stages.

Drawing the Figure
Here are a few more drawings from the last figure drawing class I went to. So far they have been fun and relaxing. And the best part is I get to spend some time with friends while drawing and on some nights go out for a drink afterwards.

Figure Drawing
After work I got a chance to do some figure drawing with two models. My friend and I were a little rusty drawing figures for the first time in a long time.

Hands
After a hectic but fun day my husband fell asleep for a short nap on a lazy Saturday afternoon. I took this opportunity to draw him since I thought he wouldn't be moving. I was somewhat successful in sketching out his hands since he ended up moving a lot in his sleep.

Klimt Purse
I have always loved the work of Gutav Klimt and have wanted to recreate his work. I found an old photo of a wood painting I did based of Klimt's Judith 1. I have painted this many years ago and hopefully some time soon I will try to do it again with better success.

Thorned Girl WIP
I decided to redraw the Girl with the Thorn hair idea. I'm looking at more reference for hands, face and thorns to get a better idea of how I want to execute my idea. The composition is changing and so is the woman's face. I think once I have the final drawing down I will add some color to it. It will be posted soon.
